What is maiko ? Please do not say geisha. The young ladies who dance at parties are called maiko. An experienced maiko is promoted to geiko. When a maiko graduates to the rank of geiko, she changes her red collar for a white one. This custom is called "erigae" When you walk in this area, the elegant streets and houses of Gion come into sight. The traditional pleasure quarter is waiting for you.
